Jessie was born October 12, 1922 to the late Bessie Wimberly and the late Fred Burr, in Springvale, GA, where she also attended the local schools. “Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.” Proverbs 31:10 In 1940 Jessie married L. C. Thomas and in 1946 they relocated to St. Petersburg, FL. Together they raised 5 beautiful children: Robert, L. C., Eva, Jessica and Delores. “Strength and honor are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.” Proverbs 31:25 – 26 Jessie was a hardworking, dedicated wife and mother who believed in doing everything she could to bring her children up right. She was a very loving mother, strong, encouraging and full of love and laughter. For 35 years Jessie worked for Bayfront Hospital as a Seamstress to help provide for her family. “She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eatheth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.” Proverbs 31:27-28 In 1950 Jessie made Mt. Zion Progressive Baptist Church her church home. She was an active member of the “Crazy Walkers Club,” where members walked 6 miles a day, starting at 5:00 a.m., the Golden Girls Nursing Home Ministry, and a Poll Worker for Pinellas County. “Favor is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.” Proverbs 31:30-31 On August 18, the Lord called Jessie Lee Thomas to eternal rest. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband L. C. Thomas, Sr, one daughter, Delores Thomas, as well as her siblings: Robert Burr, Samuel Burr, Freddie Mae Thomas, Eunice Yarbrough; grandchildren: Tracy and Kevin Thomas. She leaves to cherish her memories: Sons: Robert Thomas (Rosa) and L. C. Thomas; Daughters: Eva Southerland (John) and Jessica Isidore Thomas (Rufus); and Grandchildren: Stephanie Raimer, Nydia Southerland, Sophia Isidore, Santrice Thomas, Shabazz Rogers, Laurynn Jones and Khloe Maneus. She also leaves 11 great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.
